Biography

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is a Nigerian politician and engineer who served as Governor of Kano State in two separate terms from 2003 to 2007 and 2011 to 2015, and as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence. He is the founder of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, a populist organisation that dominates Kano State politics. He contested the 2023 presidential election under the New Nigeria Peoples Party receiving 1,496,687 votes nationally. He won his home state of Kano with 997,279 votes, the only state where the NNPP presidential candidate came first.
