Biography

Ibrahim Shekarau is a veteran Nigerian politician who won the Kano Central Senatorial seat in 2023 under the New Nigeria Peoples Party having defected from the APC. He served as Governor of Kano State from 2003 to 2011 and previously as Minister of Education under President Jonathan. A former school principal, he has a long history in Kano State education administration. His switch to the NNPP contributed significantly to the party’s sweep of Kano State in 2023. He is considered one of the most experienced politicians in northern Nigeria.
